How and when do you “potty train” for outings/bed time?

My 3 year old is completely potty trained during the day. But I put a diaper on him during his “quiet time” in his room (he SOMETIMES will nap during this time) and at bed time he wears a diaper, along with outings (for example: car rides or to a park/zoo, etc.) 
How old was your child when they stopped wearing diapers/pull ups during these times? Should I start now? How did you do it? How long did it take? Any tips?

My stepson we had off diapers completely by 3, probably right before he turned 3 but he was ready and willing! 
You gotta really feel out your kid and see what works or make sense for you guys but he didn't want to wear diapers and after a few accidents we learned how long a trip he could last before needing a potty break. Not to mention the kid hated the feeling of being dirty like that so he really trained himself lol.

I wouldn't consider that fully day time trained if you are having him in diapers to leave the house.    In my house we just put them in underwear and stopped when we could at a restroom just like we do at home and we would always pack extra clothes just incase. Kept an extra potty in the car for longer car rides. Night time is tricky because it can't really be thought it's just whenever the body is ready to sleep through without wetting.

As soon as my daughter got the hang of the concept and did well during the day we did away with diapers all around. It was within the first week. Took her to pee before bed and naps and outings and if we were out for a long time we just made sure to take her to the bathroom same as at home.

My daughter was 2 & a half & we just never gave her a diaper again lol, we didn’t put them on her at night or when we left or anything & she never had an accident. The moment we started potty training we decided it kind of felt pointless to put them on her because to us it felt like saying well it’s okay to pee in the bed even though you pee in the potty during the day. It just depends on the child though, some kids aren’t ready that early. If you feel like they know how to hold their pee until you get to a bathroom then I feel like you could give it a shot

As soon as my son was trained at 2 at home I stopped putting a pull up on him when we would go out. I had a small potty in the car boot and if we were in shopping places or days out I would take him to the toilets there. I always used to ask on journeys or in places he was distracted if he needed the toilet. For night times he is 2 and a half and some nights the pull ups are completely dry and some nights are full. I’ve only took them off on nights twice and both times were dry but he still wakes up sometimes and tells me to take him to the toilet. I’d say when they’re waking up and when their pull ups are dry in the morning they’re ready to lose it on the night. For going out I’d say get a potty for your car and start straight away but make sure you keep asking if he needs the toilet. Also remember accidents are going to happen. It’s normal so always have spare clothes and pants in the car or in your bag ☺️

My daughter is 3 and I’ve just been taking her on short outings first. To grandma and grandpas or to the nail salon… she still wears a pull up at night for bed (she doesn’t take naps). When we are out I just constantly ask her if she has to use the bathroom so she knows we don’t always have to be home to pee/poop. She used the bathroom once while we were out so far, so it seems to be working and she’s getting more comfortable. I also always have an extra change of clothes/underwear and diaper just in case

If he is mostly trained for daytime, then you should try no diapers at all. Talk about it that he doesn’t need the diapers. Show him how to wake up, get up and go potty during the night. Figure out how you want to handle outings. Use public toilets, training toilet in the car, etc. You need to just try.

I potty trained my daughter at 2.5 years old. She was day time potty trained within a week. I bought a travel potty seat and whenever we go somewhere we take it with us. We just made it a habit to have her go potty before we leave the house. If we were gone for a long time like at the zoo then we'd take potty breaks and I'd make her at least try to go.
I stopped putting her in diapers at night about 3 weeks after she was fully potty trained during the day. My only advice on that is make sure he goes potty before bed, right when he wakes up and have extra sheets/blankets ready in case of an accident.
