Newborns and Covid - Any experiences you can share?

Hi everyone,

Covid has finally hit my home. Unfortunately, last week my 4 year old son brought it home from his daycare last week he only goes twice a week. He was feeling better after a day and then my husband got it a few days later. He is also feeling much better now but today I finally got hit with it and it's brutal. We have a 1 month old and I am so concerned about her getting it. We haven't really been able to isolate from eachother as we live in a small 2 bedroom condo. Any experiences you can share? Did your newborn get hit hard if they got it? I am currently combo feeding as I have IGT and can't EBF. Will this still help? Any stories/tips I would be very greatful. Thank you!

Giving some breast milk will at least pass on some of your anti bodies 🙏I don't know anyone personally, but follow a few who shared their newborn had covid along with the rest of the family this winter. It was hard and it wasn't fun but it was okay. It took a while to get over it for the baby especially.

One of them was in the hospital for observation. They just continued to keep the fever down and that was it really.

Did the newborn have to be hospitalized? When I called her pediatrician with what to do if she does start getting symptoms he was very nonchalant and didn't really seem concerned. He said just give her tylonel if she gets a fever (didn't even tell me how much I just realized the tylonel bottle says ask the doctor so I will have to call back) and if it lasts more than a day bring her to the hospital.

My son wasn’t a newborn but he was a preemie. He was 6 months when he got it with the rest of my family. He was born at 31 weeks. He was sick for 1 day with a low grade fever.

I had a friend with a daughter who got it at six weeks, they had to go into hospital a few times but I don't think she received much actual treatment, more just observing and monitoring I believe.. good luck!

I tested positive when my water broke. I didn’t even know I had it. The hospital never separated us and I never separated away from my baby when we got home. She never got it. She is now 17m and has never been sick.

My husband and I had it back in early January. We got hit really hard, especially me with fevers, chills and horrible coughs, I thought I was going to cough up a lung and almost passed out from coughing so hard. We wore masks when we were around our baby, who was 3-4 months old at the time (also born 5 weeks premature), which was 24/7 and washed our hands constantly. I continued to breastfeed him. Luckily he never showed signs of sickness! Could’ve been the constant hand washing, mask-wearing, breastfeeding, or just luck, but thank god he didn’t get it. We were so worried!

I absolutely cannot believe your pediatrician is taking it so lightly. I know of babies that have had issues from covid and needing to go to the er a lot (NOT that that would happen to your baby, just infuriates me that people don’t take it seriously). My mom is the same way and doesn’t even think babies can get covid 🙄 so I have cut her out. I hope your LO doesn’t get it but if baby gets it, you got this mama! I hope you all feel better soon ❤️❤️

Thank you for sharing. Glad you guys made a full recovery. I hope my LO won't get it. It's been in our house for a week. I thought we were in the clear and then bam - I got hit last night. 😖 I'm so worried about my LO and her pediatrician's whatever attitude made me more nervous. 😥
