Do I get paid for training in retail?

So I started my part time job at a retail clothing store yesterday. I’ve never had experience in retail, so I was super appreciative of my manager showing me the ropes. She scheduled me from 10am to 5pm with “Training” written below.

Most of my day was getting acquainted with the store, I did a lot of sensor tagging and hanging, put people in fitting rooms, and I probably spent 45min watching hr training videos + paperwork. Around 1:30, she said I could take 30 for lunch and she’d show me how to clock in after. I come back and clock in with another associate, do my thing for the rest of the day, clock out at 5.

I was telling my bf about my day and he freaked out that they didn’t clock me in at 10am when I got there. Is it mandatory that the work I did from 10 to 2 is paid?

ADDITIONALLY

I’m kinda stumped. I’m working two part times now. Average of 5hrs 3days a week (M-W) being a photo editor/office assistant for a photographer because I’m getting skills for a long term career. And average of 6.5hrs 4days a week (Thur-Sun) working retail bc I think it gets me out of my comfort zone and extra income is nice. 41 hr work week and average pay will be around $511 a week. It’s not crazy hard work, but I’m afraid I made a mistake not keeping a day for myself to self care :( maybe I’m being a wuss.
