How to handle getting yelled at by MIL?

So we went to visit my MIL and my son fell asleep watching a video on my phone and the screen didn’t turn off automatically causing the phone to overheat it was in hands/lap it was with him for 3 hrs. My MIL got angry and raised her voice saying it would explode all over him and disfigure him and that i would regret it and she also said he’ll suffocate and die. She also sent me a video of a person with their face burned from their charging phone apparently. My phone is an iPhone 12, he always takes my phone and fall asleep with it and it would get hot every time but I didn’t know it could explode or cause suffocation, and I feel like a bad mom. She always makes me feel this way I hate that I can’t stand up for myself and get chocked up every time. Am I a bad mom? I didn’t know it was dangerous.

I mean I definitely don’t recommend letting that continue and also maybe look into getting your phone looked at because it shouldn’t heat up like that. Stop allowing her the time and space to treat you that way, you’re an adult and you can leave when she’s treating you disrespectfully.

I literally slept with my phone playing Shrek all night last night because everyone was snoring so flipping badly I couldn't sleep. If you've got a good phone, it's fine. They're designed to be used. Tell your mother in law the next time she makes such comments at you will be her last. What an awful thing to say to someone. I'm so over MILs and they're attitudes.

She shouldn’t have yelled but she is coming from a good place. 
You should stop letting your child fall asleep with a screen. Screens have been proven to cause the same damage on the brain that drugs do. They become an addiction. Also since your phone is getting hot, there might be something wrong with the phone. 
It sounds like she means well but is just delivering it poorly. Don’t let her yell at you!

Fyi cell phones emit an extremely high amount of radiation and EMF pulses, and especially because children's skulls are not fully formed, it is not good for their brain development, hormonal regulation, REM sleep etc. We saw a seminar I believe from Harvard (it's posted on youtube) with a panel of physicians and psychiatrists advocating for cell phone and wifi and children's health awareness with research provibg its harm, so we bought an EMF detector because we thought they may be exaggerating, but cell phones pulsate way off the chart even when not in use. We dont let our kids take our phones at all, but especially while sleeping, it really isnt good for them. Im not saying this to judge you or make you feel bad, there is practically no information out there informing parents of this so it isnt your fault, probably because technology corporations dont want it to be known. It isnt nice that your MIL yelled, but it is in fact unsafe.

Um tell her to speak to you like an adult or fuck off. 
You made a mistake, there’s no need for her to focus on “what could happen” and blow you up for it. 
This could have been handled with a mature conversation just advising you if the danger, rather than yelling at you like a child. 
I’m beginning to hate all mother in laws the more I read. 
It would be different if something had actually happened, and she yelled in a panic. But for nothing to happen, and she feels she has the right to yell?

This just shows the way we communicate makes a huge difference.  Something seems to be missing from your account because it doesn’t really make since that your MIL got angry for out of blue. When she cautioned you about the phone, what was your response? I’m quite sure she didn’t just start yelling and you conveniently left out what you said and did.
Also, what your MIL was saying wasn’t wrong and she has knowledge that you don’t have and could use.  But the way you two are communicating is awful. I think she has your son’s interests at heart and the larger his community of people who care for and love him is best. Try to get along and not take offense so quickly.

I mean yes you obtain knowledge and learn. Your mother in law has communication issues… she couldve taught you and didnt need to escalate things unless she saw you persistently didnt learn.
