Has anyone had their blood draw come back with a chance of baby having Spina Bifida and it not be right when going in for further testing?

I received a call on Tuesday from the genetics department and they said my number for surrogate baby was 3.44. That there is a possibility of baby having Spina Bifida. I now have my ultrasound tomorrow to do further analysis. I just feel worried and anxious. I was wondering if anyone has received same results but came back that the baby is healthy and growing normally.

I don't have experience but the blood tests are just screening tools they are not diagnostic. So while the blood work came back elevated for spina bifida there is always the possibility with further testing babe will be fine and no issues. I would wait to see what they say at your ultrasound and ask any and all questions you have. Tests that would give you a more definitive answer are CVS or amniocentesis.

“There are approximately 25 to 50 abnormal test AFP results for every 1,000 pregnancies tested.
Of these abnormal results, only 1 in 16 to 1 in 33 will actually have a baby that has been affected by a neural tube defect or other condition.” It is most accurate during weeks 16-18.
