Early labour contractions?

What do contractions feel like at the very beginning of labour?
I’m going through some minor tightening feelings at irregular intervals at the moment. Pain is pretty mild and easy to get through. I’m trying to figure out if what I’m feeling is something to keep a note of or am I just being paranoid? I’m 40+5 today. I’ve had tonnes of braxton hicks lately but this is giving me slightly more of a feeling and keeps happening every 10-17 mins.
I haven’t had anything happen like my water breaking… maybe a little bit of mucus plug loss (but honestly there was hardly anything and it might just be normal discharge)… no bloody show.

Turns out it was the start of labour! Baby was born about 15 hours later 😅🥰

If you can breathe and still talk through your contractions it’s most likely Braxton hicks, but if the pain gets stronger & longer and you can no longer talk through them it’s probably actual labor.

Was having horrible painful contractions on Tuesday night at 1:30 that followed the 5-1-1 rule - one contraction lasting for about a minute every 4-7 mins for one hour. It lasted about 90 minutes and I decided to go to the hospital with my OB’s recommendation. Was turned away because I was only 1 cm dilated and was scheduled for an induction the next evening Came home at 6 am and the contractions really died down. It was so bizarre. Once I was induced with the balloon and Cyotec those real early labor contractions were 10 times worse but not sure if that was due to the ballon which was super painful to get put it. I waited about 2 hours when my contractions were 7 mins apart until I asked for the epidural and thank the lord I did. That being said I know people whose early labor contractions were not super painful but followed the 5-1-1 rule also. Long story short - it’s different for everyone but if you’re ever unsure call your doctor or see if distracting yourself with a task makes them die down a bit.

Could be something, could be nothing but you'll probably drive yourself crazy if you pay too much attention to them. Try to go about things as normal, maybe eating and resting a bit more just in case, but I think distraction is the best approach until your body really makes you pay attention!
