First IUI

katherine

Hello everyone! I am 34 years old. My husband and I were TTC since I quit birth control when we got married almost 6 years ago. After many frustrations, hundreds of blood tests, we found a fertility specialist. He was convinced I had some of the symptoms of PCOS. He started me on metformin, synthroid, vitamin D, and pregnancy vitamins. No success. We did a few rounds of Clomid. No success. My biggest question was I was very irregular (my cycles would be anywhere from 24 to 31 days long). I tried ovulation tests, but the results were erratic and confusing. I could not figure out the timing. Sometimes I had anovulation (no egg) released. We swapped to the new current fertility specialist. He believes I didn’t have PCOS. We started our first IUI prep this month. I went in on day 3 heavy bleeding on my cycle to do baseline follicular ultrasound. On days 4-8, I took letrozole 5mg at night to encourage ovulation. Everything looks great. They tested Hubbys sperm (which we were told were slow) they were normal not slow at all. On day 10, we made sure to prime hobby last time for intercourse. On day 12, we went in for blood work to check estradiol, LH, Progesterone and do another follicular ultrasound. The nurse said a had a fat 17mm follicle and two 14mm follicles which was really good. Sent us to rest and on day 13 Friday night we did a trigger shot of 5,000 Novarel at 8pm. Went back for IUI at 8am next morning. Doctor said everything went smoothly. Have to do progesterone capsules vaginally every night to encourage uterine lining and increases chances. I am so nervous. I have been a bundle of hormones and crying over silly things. They said I can’t test for 14 days until May 28. I got very sick yesterday. I have a boil on the cartilage of my ear. My normal doctor didn’t want to lance it, bc it’s risky. She does not want to give antibiotics, in case I’m pregnant. (Bactrim is contraindicated in first trimester). I had a fever of 101. I’m on bed rest until Saturday. They did blood work to see if my white blood cell count is high, also she did an HCG count to see if we can see if it worked. This is not how I wanted to find out if we were pregnant. I’m so worried and overwhelmed, not because I’m sick but because I’m worried for the tiny human that may or may not be there. Some people said even with blood work, it might not be positive this early. Any help, support, advice to ease my mind would be appreciated. Thoughts and prayers. ❤️
