Terrible 2 (normal or not?)

My son is 2.5. He’s very strong willed, a bit advanced with speech and is pretty smart. (Can count to 10, knows ABCs etc). He has multiple tantrums everyday. Sometimes all day long. Hitting, throwing things, refusing to cooperate or follow direction. Lots of issues at daycare. We are going to have him see a behavioral specialist but could this be normal even though he seems extreme? We are exhausted. I’ve read all the books, tried all the things, and we are at a loss of how to survive everyday.

Could be normal. My son is about to be 3 and he went through some pretty rough stages at 2. We had to switch daycares and put him in a Montessori school and he's doing much better because he gets to be more independent. His daycare provider and him clashed a lot because she expected him to be completely obedient and follow all her rules. He's a very spirited child and likes to do his own thing and have choices. Montessori focuses on letting the child choose and they act as a guide/watcher but ultimately everything is child led, which is what he needed. My son is also advanced, smart for his age and so a lot of people think he's older than he is but they're still learning. They have big feelings.

Might be worth looking into a child psychologist, while tantrums are normal, if it’s impacting your family and his daycare this much then there might be something worth looking into. Or at least a professional could give you some guidance.
