Is this normal for a 5 week old??

My almost 5 week old just fell asleep on his own. I was under the understanding that newborns can’t self soothe and need help falling asleep??? I was trying to get him down for a nap and he was fussing. I had to get dressed cause we had people coming over, so I set him in his crib for 5 minutes so I could do that. Well, while I was gone, he was still crying but after about 3 minutes, he stopped so I checked the camera and he was asleep!! I couldn’t believe it! Is this normal for a 5 week old to fall sleep on his own?!
