Shift work

Hi guys

Im just looking for some advice from people who have been in the situation, or understand this situation.

I come from a job where I had a very stable life pattern. My shifts were all 5am to 1pm, so I always had a set sleep schedule that I could follow easily. However, I have now changed to a job where the shifts vary. I've been doing this job now since December 2020 and the shifts are as follows:

3 weeks of 8am to 4pm shifts (days)

1 week of 2pm to 10pm shifts (antisocials)

1 weekend in 4 at 8am to 4pm (we wont do this on the weekend either side of the antisocials, it will always be between two weeks of days)

I am really struggling with my sleeping pattern. I usually wake at 4:30, leave at 6:50 (it is a long commute to work) and arrive at 7:45. I get home then by 5pm, do my chores, walk my dog, then help my partner with cooking before eating, then going to bed at 8:30pm. This works well for me, and I can swap to the antisocial shifts easily. I will sleep by 11:30pm (pretty much straight after eating the meal my partner has cooked), and wake at about 8am to do all my chores and walk my dog before going to work. The issue comes when I swap back onto the day shifts. I am always exhausted for the first week without fail, and struggle to get to sleep at my usual 8:30pm.

Is this something I am just going to have to deal with, or is there a way I can work around it?

Thanks in advance!
