Accidentally added the wrong last name to my childrens name?

So i added my old babys fathers last name.. but he doesnt want anything to do with his kids and doesnt want to be in their life so i want to see if i can change their last name to mine instead. ? Is it free? Or do i have to sign papers? And pay?

You may have to pay for the change. The best thing to do is call your local social security office and the place where you get your child’s birth certificate at. They will be able to help you more than what we can.

I don’t know about where you live but where I live if dad is on birth certificate you both will need to sign paperwork consenting to the change and pay a fee 
If he isn’t on birth certificate you can apply and pay the fee without him needing to be involved
