Are you concerned you may be living in an information echo chamber?
Everyone has their own set of politics, their own world view, their own personal life situations that shape their opinions and stances on certain topics. However, access to information is arguably better today then it has even been in history. With so much “Google it” that happens daily, answers feel like they are at our fingertips.
On the other side, your search and purchase data is used to curate information and products for exposure to you that algorithms say you must want to see. It’s not a perfect system, but life milestones or repetitive searches can get you in a loop… example: announce a pregnancy on Facebook and suddenly you are getting ads for Halo devices warning you about SIDS… just one example, but you get the idea.
This same thing goes for your news… if you have a favorite news source, you may notice that your social feeds start to fill with ‘influencers’ that may have similar political bias or lifestyles as you do.
This doesn’t have to be super deep or concerning, but it can be. Do you make effort to break out of your informational pattern or look for new or alternative topics? Do you think we need to be concerned that there are organizations or companies that invest in telling us what they want us to hear?
It’s not just social media, but the image is fitting
