Please no judgement - circumcision

We had our beautiful baby boy on 6/18 and he is perfect and healthy. We wanted to get him circumcised at the hospital but they told us his genitals were too swollen and we needed to wait and go see a urologist. Today I took him in and they said they recommend waiting until he is 6 - 12 months old to circumcise him as his penis is not shaped correctly for the procedure. I am really struggling with this as it means he will need to get an epidural or even be put under if it’s after 12 months and I’m not sure what to do. We have another son who is circumcised so I feel that it would be odd to have one circumcised and one not. Has anyone been through this before and can offer some advice? Please no hateful comments.

I would take this as a sign it's best to just avoid the procedure altogether. I couldn't see myself putting my son under anesthesia or getting an epidural just for aesthetic purposes to match his brother. All our bodies are different anyway.

I would listen to the doctors if you want a successful circumcision for your son.

Honestly if I was in your position I wouldn’t get it at all because I think it’s going to be really hard on him at that age

Hi mama! I just wanted to share my thoughts on this. I was 100% against circumcision for my son (I had a home birth & surprise gender when he was born). I later felt personal conviction to have the procedure done. I felt like a horrible mother to take my son at 21 months old to get circumcised! I cried for months prior to seeing a urologist and was so conflicted! Anyways, fast forward to the procedure, they DID have to put him under anesthesia. I did get to go back with him for them to put him under and hold him while they put the mask over his face in the operating room. The procedure took about an hour all together from going to sleep, procedure, and waking up. I thought he’d be in a lot of pain but this kid literally wanted to jump on the trampoline as soon as we got home. Took about a couple of weeks to heal, was able to take the dressing off the surgical area a few days after surgery and the rest is history lol but the Dr did tell me good thing I waited bec with the shape of his penis, they probably would have taken off too much skin as a newborn. If I were to have another son I’d wait til the 8the day to circumcise and preferably done by a rabbi! I know it sounds scary but the nurses kept reassuring me that circumcision is completely normal even at that age for my son! They even say they see teenage boys regularly to get the procedure done. I’d say don’t stress about it, I think it’ll all be okay!!!💕💕

I would also just wait it out until he's older. Anesthesia and all that is just too worrisome for me for a child.

I would just wait and revisit the subject in six months. If it was safe at that point I’d get it done. It’s a difficult decision! I didn’t even think about it until I was at the hospital and we were asked. My husband made the decision to do it
