First time c-section momma

Gerycah

Hello, I just had my first c-section today, it was emergency, so had no choice, my daughter was born at 34 weeks 2 days, and I'm at a loss on what to do or not to do, I do have a 1 year old at home. Any advice tips tricks or home remedies, will be greatly appreciated.

Belly band, stool softener, no lifting, keep on top on meds even if you think you don’t need them!Congratulations on the birth of your baby!

If the hospital has them ask for a belly band it helped me so much getting around, stay on top of the pain medication, don’t carry heavy and take it easy I know sometimes we feel like normal but we have a big wound on the inside healing. I slept on my back with a lot of back pillows for support and if you’re bed is high definitely get something to get on I had little stairs to get to the bed lol

Definitely high waisted undies will be your best friend for awhile lol I’m almost 11 months postpartum and I still wear them because the regular ones sit right at the incision

Most will tell you a belly band will help but my torso is short so I found them all uncomfortable. I lived in compression leggings for like the first year after, this go round I have CPanties, and a Bellefit and I’m excited to give them both a try. Basically having abdominal support is a HUGE help, especially with a little at home. My next piece of advice is just to not worry about the house. Rest. Keep your feet up as much as you can. Stay on top of your meds, even if it’s just Tylenol, don’t try to be a hero. You will heal so much faster if you don’t let your pain get away from you.

Oh also! Silicone scar sheets!! You can start using them after about a week - they help with healing and scarring. And keeping your incision dry is also very important. Mine gave me fits so I’d wash with water every day and use a blow dryer on low. You can also cut up an old tshirt and put across your incision.

Hang in there mama! I’ve had an emergency and a scheduled. Is your baby in the NICU or coming home with you? Don’t pick up your toddler until they say it’s okay! It’s super hard, have them snuggle with you on the couch, but no lifting. I sleep on the couch the first week and try and avoid the stairs as much as possible. Stay on top of your meds, even if it’s just Tylenol and Ibuprofen. Holding a pillow over hour incision when you cough or sneeze helps too!
