Other’s parenting advice

So my LO is 7.5 months old and has gotten more clingy since about a month ago. We recently moved in with family and they’ve been telling me that I need to not be picking her up every time she cries when she’s on the floor playing. Normally when it was just me and my partner, I’d let her fuss/cry some if I was busy, but I’d always pick her up eventually, and I’d never let her get super upset crying. My bf’s grandma is telling me to let her cry and just talk to her and distract her, but I’m not sure if that’s the right thing to do

Basically just needing some advice, possibly suggestions of books. Im wanting to gentle parent
