I’m a single mother of 2 and we are about to get evicted. I live in Chicago Illinois and right now there isn’t any rent assistance available right now, (they are closed or they are only covid related)

I’m already on the section 8 waiting list.

I have no idea what we are going to do, we might end up in a homeless shelter..

there are a few apartments that are ‘income based’ but they are in really bad neighborhoods and the apartments have cockroaches.

I need any advice on what my options are.

My landlord doesn’t fix the mice problems that we have been having and the ceiling leaks when it rains a lot. I stopped paying rent last month because this house is literally falling apart. So I’m now $1200 behind on rent. My landlord said come up with $500 and he won’t start the eviction process but I barely make any money at my job right now but I am trying to get money as best as I can right now.

My mom told me if my landlord took me to court I could fight the eviction because of the house problems but my landlord has a lot of money and would probably win the case anyways so there would be no point.

Any advice would be appreciated.
