How do you define open-mindedness?

Over the years I have seen a lot of arguments between people concerning hot button topics in politics and social justice.
If I color code them, the Green side claims the Orange side is close minded because they don’t believe in or agree with XYZ. However the Orange side does not care to listen or understand where the Green side is coming from. So is the Orange side really as open minded as they claim to be? Are both Green and Orange sides equally close minded and stubborn in their views? 
I personally define open mindedness as acceptance and possible appreciation for ALL sides and opinions, and I think that’s VERY hard to do and be so I think open mindedness is actually very very rare. I definitely don’t think only Orange people are open and all Green people are closed. How do you define it?

Read up on the paradox of tolerance. It’s a very similar concept. You cannot be 100% open to all ideas/ways to thinking without actually doing harm.

Complete open mindedness towards a white supremacist, cult, or president, trying to radicalize you is not a good thing.  What (or the object) your mind is open to matters.

Well, I consider open minded to mean willing to consider change and look at a different point of view. If I look at someone’s point of view and it is harmful to a group of people, I’m not going to be like “oh okay, that’s a reasonable thought.” I think a lot of beliefs I disagree with are purely rooted in tradition and an unwillingness to acknowledge an evolving world.

I’m not open to arguments that include things like racism, homophobia, discrimination, or a lack of human rights. 
I hear things like “I’m not homophobic I just don’t believe in homosexuality” and absolutely refuse to be open to hearing that persons views and I could care less…..sometimes there is a right and a wrong side and it’s okay not to listen to the opinions of others 🤷‍♀️

To me, open mindedness is listening to the other side, considering what and why they have those beliefs, and be willing to change your mind if the evidence is compelling. It doesn't mean you have to change your opinion/belief, but you should be willing to at least try and see things from other perspectives and frequently re-evaluate what you think about controversial topics. It is also ok to understand why someone acts/thinks/feels a certain way and totally disagree with their actions.

I am very opinionated and not afraid to talk.
Open mindedness for me means that I am ready to listen to someone else’s point - even if it’s polar opposite of mine. But you need a good partner in this who can explain well their points and reasons.
As a previous comment said this is not good when it comes to white supremacists, etc…
I’d say it is ok to listen because you can only learn how different we all are.
I totally disagree with what Hitler did yet i watch a lot of documentaries on it.
I don’t think white supremacists have a valid point yet i watched few documentaries and interviews to try to understand their point.

I think being willing to hear all arguments, genuinely assess the information, and come to a conclusion about it is about as open-minded as a person can be. You can hear from everyone and still not change your mind about a given issue. The point is to be willing to listen and engage in real dialogue, rather than either shutting down or getting extremely defensive. 
I'll use the covid vaccines as an example, since it's something I feel strongly about. Full disclosure: I'm not vaccinated - yet. I did a ton of research and formed my own opinion and decision based on my research and my own moral and ethical code. On this forum, I was able to explain my position and though a lot of people had strong opinions in the opposite direction, which I read and engaged with, those some people also engaged with my position in a respectful manner. It was useful, open-minded dialogue, even though we had a fundamental disagreement on the subject. Fast forward to today, the kind of vaccine I have been waiting for, which meets all of my requirements, is about to be approved by the FDA. As I have long said, as soon as a vaccine came along that I could take in good conscience, I would be first in line to get it. That hasn't changed.
Open-mindedness is not the same as tolerance. It's being willing to engage with ideas without getting defensive or browbeating other people.
