My 3 year old is not sleeping help!
Hi,
My almost 3 year old son for the past two months (maybe even more) has been going to sleep late and waking up every single night about two hours after he falls asleep. He will not go back to sleep unless I bring him in my room to sleep with me in my bed. I tried really hard to sleep train him in his baby months, which worked and he was always a great sleeper for the most part. RARELY woke up and slept a good 12-13 hours every night. Now, Out of nowhere, it’s become the complete opposite. When I ask him why he’s waking up he says it’s scary in his room and he’s afraid of monsters, rats, snakes, and owls (quite the combination lol). I brought this up to his pediatrician and his response was that he’s very strict w sleeping and to not give in. Let him cry for as long as he needs to and go in every so often to let him know you’re still there. He said eventually he’ll fall asleep and even if it’s on the floor behind the door it’s fine and eventually he’ll understand and start sleeping again in his room consistently through the night. Well, I tried that last night and he didn’t fall asleep anywhere at anytime. Once it was 5am I decided enough and took him back in my room to bed. Has anyone gone through anything similar? Looking for some sort of advice on how to handle this situation! I feel like he’s traumatized from last night and it makes me so sad :( any and all advice appreciated.
