Can I order myself labs?

This is my first baby, second pregnancy. I lost my last at 5w2d. I'll be 5w tomorrow and my first appointment isn't until I'm 10w. Any ladies ask their doctor to give a blood test prior to their first appointment to check levels and give them piece of mind?

My doctor has everyone confirm it with a blood test and then makes them go back in 48hrs for another to make sure it’s rising and it’s viable. They also let you get progesterone tested if you want. I would definitely ask to get these done. ❤️

I would ask. My doctor tests for hcg levels and progesterone levels as soon as you get a positive and retests them to make sure numbers are stable within the first couple of weeks regardless of history

It's normal for them to wait. If you have a history of repeat miscarriages they may consider early tests but miscarriages happen and there really isn't much for them to do. Plus, you would need to be getting these labs done every couple of days to watch your hcg double if it was a question of viability. There's such a huge range of normal hcg that offices are forgoing these blood tests more often now.

My doctor always waits until 8-10 weeks of pregnancy because first trimester miscarriages are so common. I had two last year at 20 weeks and 6 weeks and the only one that has been a concern is obviously the 20 week because I've never had this happen. I have 2 living children so my doc is stumped . I do hear that you can self pay for labs. Sometimes they are reasonable priced and others are insane.

I did it through my doctor because I had prior loss. But if your doctor doesn’t wanna do it for you based on medical necessity. However, LabCorp in the US does offer hCG testing that you have to pay for out-of-pocket if you want to go that route. It’s on their website.
