Why does my infant have a hole in her lower back?

I know when she was first born, she had a dimple near the bottom of her spine that they were concerned about so they did a bunch of x-rays and stuff. She’s 6 months old now and i’m just now noticing this hole!! Should i call her doctor?

It's a sacral dimple. Not anything to be too concerned about. Keep it clean and there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I have one and my daughter has one as well. Her doctor wasn't concerned. I didn't I know I had one until my early 20s. My doctor said it wasn't anything to worry about as long as it's kept clean. If you're conxnered you can have the doctor look at it

My husband and first son have one of those although theirs weren't quite as deep. We joke they had a tail cut off at birth lol

The nurses noticed my daughter had a dimple in the same area right after birth and had it examined by the pediatrician who came to release her from the hospital. Hers was nothing but they did talk about how if it were something it could have affected her spinal cord etc. if they never mentioned it to you at all I’d call and take her in. That’s something pretty hard to miss during a checkup thought so I assume the dr saw it. Definitely make sure though and have her seen just in case because that looks like an actual hole and I’d be concerned if I saw that without ever being informed about it by the drs.

My daughter has this. It turned out her sacral dimple was associated with tethering of her spinal cord, which required surgery. If its not corrected in time, your baby may eventually have nerve damage that controls her bowel/bladder. It might be nothing, or it could be something. I would definitely talk to the doctor about a possible MRI on her lower back. My daughter had spine surgery at 4 years old. The sacral dimple was a major indicator.
