Home Birth + Toddler
Looking for some advice from anyone who has had a home birth while their toddler was at home.
My daughter will be about 21mo, and unless the baby happens to be born between the hours of 7:30-17:00 on a Friday when she is at daycare, she’s going to be at home when it happens. We will have our doula (and hopefully my mom) here so there will be someone available to occupy her, but I’m wondering if anyone has any tips that they found useful during their experience.
I’ll be birthing on the ground floor which is where the TV, living room and kitchen are. So I’m planning on having some special, low mess meals available that she can eat picnic style in her room, and we’re going to get her a tablet so she can play games and watch some shows. Was also going to have a bag of new toys and books so she has some things that will hold her interest for a while (any recommendations for that age would be great!) I’m writing a detailed guide to her daily schedule as well so that whoever is watching her knows what she’s used to. Anything else you found useful?
(And before anyone suggests it, no, we don’t have anywhere else we can send her. We don’t live in the same country as any of our family. We don’t have any friends nearby who would be able to take her. She only goes to daycare once per week and they are usually very short staffed, so we won’t be able to add a last minute day for her to go.)
