The Eve of One

I read this article a couple of weeks ago about a mom who snuck into her babies’ rooms on the eve of all of their birthdays and took a picture of them sleeping on the last night that they would ever be that age.

I spent tonight riddled with emotions and teary snuggles with my girl on the “Eve of One” trying to remember every single detail from the last 11 months of her life— how she got here, how we transitioned into our new life as a family of three, and how she’d far exceeded all of my wildest expectations for my first year of motherhood. It all somehow feels like just yesterday and 10 lifetimes ago, simultaneously.

But just as she had finally fallen asleep, I snuck back into her room and took the last picture that I would ever take of my girl before she turns one. Just to try and remember her in this moment forever.

“I’ll love you forever. I’ll like you for always. As long as I’m living, my baby you’ll be.” 🌈
