Normal?

Is it normal to not feel “full” between feedings?

My son is 3 weeks old and we are EBF until I return to work (or close to it). I think he’s going through a growth spurt because he is wanting to eat every 2ish hours and spends about 15-20 mins nursing per side every feed. He was wanting to nurse every 2.5-3 hours and only nursing from one breast per feed until yesterday when it picked up.

I just worry he’s not getting enough and that’s why his feeding has picked up. I don’t have a “full” feeling anymore during the day. I only ever feel it when he wakes up to eat at night because he’ll sleep about 4 hours between feeds at night.

Is this normal?

Sounds like clusterfeeding! Super normal and beneficial for growth and development! The ONLY way at home to know if babe is getting enough milk is wet diapers. 6+ wet diapers a day equals plenty of milk. The way your breast feel is not an indication of anything.

Definitely normal! Definitely getting enough! There is a growth spurt around 3w old!

Thank you! I was thinking it was cluster feeding because he just seems hungry all day long. He has 7-9 wet/dirty diapers a day so I’ll keep reminding myself that he’s getting enough with each diaper change haha

If baby gets full from only 1 side, that's a sign of overproduction, which is why you felt full between feeds. Now that baby's eating off of both sides at each feed, it makes sense that you wouldn't have that full feeling anymore. Totally normal

Makes total sense! I was wondering how he was getting enough from only one side each time but then jumped to both sides every feed. Just glad it’s normal, thank you for the info!

Sounds like cluster feeding and it’s totally normal. They will go through cluster feeding phases for awhile. If he is having appropriate wet diapers then he’s getting enough

If he's cluster feeding, your body will make up for it. Supply and demand. The more he demands, the more you'll supply. You aren't feeling full because he's draining you before you get to that point. Totally normal. If he's still having adequate output (pee diapers) he's getting plenty.

I was thinking cluster feeding too, just wanted the opinion of someone who’s done this before 🤣 thank you so much!
