Jacket for newborns in Winter?

I’m due Nov 21, and building my registry. If you’re already a mom who has had a newborn in the winter, did they wear/need a jacket? Our outside climate is wet and usually 40-50F in the winter, but might get down to 30F for some days. I’m wondering since he may swaddled up in blankets or in my carrier when outside

Here in Michigan, it gets pretty cold. I've always dressed my babies in layers and then tucked a blanket around them after they've been buckled in. I would then use a fleece car seat cover and zip it up until we got to the car. Coats and thick jackets caused the buckles to not fit properly around them so I always went with the blanket option. I hope that makes sense!

All of my babies were born in the winter (granted where we lived wasn’t that cold I.e. Florida/Cali) however I got the baby winter snowsuits for colder days and they worked like a charm. I’d just suggest not over dressing underneath the suit though as these can be on the thicker/heavier side depending on which one you get.

We always brought our car seat inside, so we would strap her in while we were in the warm house and used a car seat cover like this since a snowsuit/jacket in the car seat causes the straps to be loose and is a safety hazard. It also unzips and rolls to the side, so you can unzip it and swaddle outside of the straps as well!!

I live in Idaho and during our winters I dressed my baby in 2 layers, wrap a blanket around her once she was buckled in her car seat. And while she was in the infant seat I had a car seat cover that was waterproof but had a warm insulation inside, that I would use while taking her in and out of stores or house.

I never put my babies in snow suits in the winter while there were still in an infant car seat. I’d always get a winter car seat cover, put a toque on them, and an extra blanket in the cover if it’s very cold outside.

My first was born in January. She didn’t not wear a jacket. Jackets are safe for car seats so if we left the house we just used warm clothes and a blanket.
