what does early labor feel like?

this is my second baby but with the first i was induced and didn’t naturally go into labor. i felt some contractions but got the epidural like 5 contractions in. i’m not sure if something is happening or not but i’m 37 weeks now and i’ve been having intense, constant period like cramping  in my lower abdomen and my lower back HURTS. it kept me up all night last night. i don’t want to say they’re contractions because they don’t come and go but the cramping and pressure is making me feel like i’m about to explode. 
how did labor feel in the very very beginning early stages for you?

I went into labor with two of mine (#2 and #4). Both started in the middle of the night and felt like mild cramping that would come and go almost similar to being on your period. Eventually the cramping would come more often and became more intense to the point where I couldn’t tolerate it anymore then decided to go to the hospital. I did experience similar pain that you are describing the day before both labors expect I wasn’t in severe pain. It was more just a general tightness/cramp and back ache that wouldn’t ease up. I know everyone is different, but I would say you’ll definitely know when the contractions really start going bc you will feel that “wave” feeling where your body is trying to push the baby out even if you are still hours away from delivery.

I was in labor with my son and didn’t know it. He was my third child. I thought they were Braxton hick because they weren’t consistent. I was 38 weeks. They kept waking me up out of my sleep. I got up and used the bathroom and soon as I climb back in bed I felt a pop. My water broke. Then my contractions were very intense and closer together. We almost didn’t make it to the hospital. The hospital was 45 mins away. I felt like I had to bare down when I got there. All the nurses were smiling and so calm while I’m sitting there involuntarily moaning in pain 😂 definitely my worst labor.

With both my boys I had severe lower stomach and back cramps for about 24 hours then full blown contractions, my stomach would tighten every time I got a bad cramp about 12 hours in I lost my mucus plug and was being sick x

With my first I was having mild period-like cramps and that’s it. My stomach didn’t get tight or anything like they told me to expect. When I got to the hospital I was at a 4 or a 5, labor was 6 hours total.

It feels like period cramps. When mine reached 5-7 minutes it wasn’t bad but I wasn’t comfortable. I had the epidural when I reached 4 cm and I was pushing 3 hours later so my experience wasn’t bad.
