Too soon?

Hi all,

So I want to preface this by saying that as a 20 year-old who has never really had a boyfriend and is a product of generation z’s “hook-up” culture, I find it hard to truly understand how dating works.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve “talked” to many guys over my teen years and young adulthood, but for the first time in my life I’m actually interested in pursuing a relationship - I just don’t know the rules of dating.. if there are any.

***”talked” meaning hooked up, had fwb relationships with no real outcome.

So I met this guy on a dating app about two months ago. Ever since then, we’ve gone on multiple dates, so many in fact that I’ve lost count. With that being said, this is the first time in a long time that I’m actually taking a guy seriously. Now granted, we’ve already slept together, but even before then I made my intentions clear on wanting to obtain girlfriend status.

He has stated that he is also looking for a girlfriend, and has been very intentional with his actions, but he’s in no rush to commit. I can understand where he’s coming from given that it’s still kind of early, but I would just like to know how long is too long to be in the “talking” stage before fully committing?

I’m enjoying my time with him and I really like him. I don’t want him to feel like I’m pressuring him to make me his girlfriend. However, I also don’t want to fall into the “going with the flow” trap where it ends up being a situationship that goes nowhere. Is it too early to tell?

On one hand, part of me is saying that yes, it’s still early and I should continue to enjoy getting to know him. The other part of me is saying that guys who know what they want will just do it and if he really wanted to make me his girlfriend, it would of happened by now.

I feel stupid for even asking this but all thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated!
