What’s your take, is pre school a necessity to our childrens lives?

I’m a new mom to an 11 month old and it had been a question in my brain after seeing my nephew start school today! To me I don’t see it as a necessity but I want some others opinions and views.

I think it depends on the child and their environment. My daughter is an only child, doesn't have any cousins, doesn't go to daycare and doesn't get to play with kids her own age that often so yes I feel like in our situation it is a necessity. They need to socialize with other kids their own age. I also think preschool can be important on helping to get ready for actual school and learning to listen to another adult who is not mom, dad, grandma, or grandpa. There are important skills that can be learned in preschool but if your child does get those skills from other places then no, I don't think it's a big deal if they don't go to preschool

Its good early prep and socialization for kids who need it. Only children or children that take a long time to adjust to a new routine especially benefit, imo.

It’s not a necessity no.
We did it early for our kids for social reasons mostly. To get out of the house and play with other kids twice a week. We weren’t worried about them hitting learning milestones that early on.
Just for fun. They loved it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think it depends on the situation like someone else said of your child socialises with other children their age already then they should be fine but some families don’t have lots of children or lots of friends they can socialise with and they can be at a real disadvantage in terms of maturity when starting school compared to other children (not that you should compare but it happens). My daughter loves nursery (starts school September) she has gone for two years and is now the most confident social little girl who loves learning and playing/school. If she hadnt have gone for me I think starting school in a few weeks would be a struggle but every child is different 😊

I never saw it as a necessity. My sister and I didn’t go. My mom was a public school teacher and didn’t feel it was necessary. I was given the impression that it was for kids that needed alittle extra catch up before kindergarten.
But(big but) now I have a almost 4 year old and I can’t wait for preschool to start in about a month. Already we understand he is advanced academically(I guess) according to the early childhood assessment. But he doesn’t have opportunities to socialize a lot with other kids his age. That is what we are doing it for. He will gain lots of skills, make friends, learn to socialize well, become more comfortable being away from me and becoming more independent. He goes back and forth about not wanting to go without me, but once he is there, he loves it. I love the teacher he got. So I am looking forward to seeing my son blossom this year and forever will be an advocate for preschool because of my social butterfly son. 
Having said that, I don’t think it is a necessity(even for my son) and also that the quality of preschool experience will vary greatly. I am happy with the preschool that is available to us through our public school here but that doesn’t mean I would feel the same way if it were maybe a lesser quality school available to us.

No. There are even studies that say kindergarten is unnecessary and that we start formal schooling entirely too early.

No it's not necessary. Our oldest has only been around other children a handful of times and our youngest has only seen other children twice. The socialization aspect isn't needed as until the age of 6 children only need their parents to fulfill their social needs. If you're an active parent and actually helping your child to grow and learn then preschool is completely unnecessary.

Where I live it’s free when the child is 4 or 5 years old (depending on their bday) so, while it’s not necessary we wanted to take advantage of program the state offers. My daughter asked for a year before starting last week when was it her turn for school. We were part of a literacy based playground from birth-age 4, which was great exposure for her, and has helped her in school. 
If it wasn’t free, I probably wouldn’t have, just because it’s expensive and I have the ability to stay home/work from home.

Not necessary, especially if you don’t have any quality options, at home during that age range is perfect. My four year old didn’t do preschool and she is prepped for school just by doing activities at home. Check out what is expected for kids entering kindergarten or 1st grade, it’s not that hard to accomplish and there are tons of fun suggestions/curricula online for preschool activities at home.
The socialization aspect was never an issue for us - between church, play dates and siblings our kids have a TON of experience working with others. Maybe if you have an only child and don’t know any kids it would be needed. Otherwise, nah. They’re fun at that age! Why ship them off?
