Bunk bed for three year old?

The bed says 6+ on it but my daughter is incredibly cautious and careful and sleeps like a rock, she's already sleeping in a big girl bed for awhile and has never had issues. I trust her and I don't think she would fall out.

Didn’t some kid in the little league World Series just fall out of a bunk bed and get a brain bleed? He was probably plenty older than 3. Bunk beds are tempting to me to save space but I can’t do it, too many injuries. I’m probably going to get my kids stackable beds that separate for sleep but stack together so there’s room to play during the day.

We just bought this one for our 3.5 year old and 2 year old. Haven’t set it up yet because one of the parts came broken. It’s only 50 inches tall.

I think it would depend on the temperament of your child (are they more calm natured or more energetic?) and what kind of bunk bed it is. I got my son a loft that wasn’t too high up, but high enough to have stairs (not the ladder type) and a slide when he was 2. Although we also coslept.

I remember being 6 and launching myself off my cousin’s normal size bunk bed, the top bunk was so close to the ceiling I almost hit my head when I sat up…😂
Honestly though I wouldn’t because my three year old would definitely launch himself. If your child doesn’t and you think it would be a good idea then go ahead and try it. Maybe put some extra padding on the floor lol. I think your best bet would be to get one that’s a smaller overall height with rails that go higher than most normal ones.

My two year old had a bunk. My 9 year old sleeps at the top and 2 year old on the bottom.

I had bunk beds when I had my own house for my 3 year old but they were the ones lower to the ground and she slept only on the bottom bed. She did great on hers!

I was super good at staying on my bed, until I wasn’t. I was on the top bunk at 5 years old.

I was in bunk beds with my sister (a year older) from the time we were 3 and 4, maybe younger and I just can’t remember? 🤷🏻‍♀️ my older kids are 3 (recent birthday) and 4 1/2. They’ve been sleeping in a “toddler,” low loft bed with trundle combo for about 4 months. The initial intent was for the oldest to be on top, but they insisted that he had to be on the bottom and her on top because “in the Berenstain Bears, Brother us in the bottom and Sister is on top!” So, of course … 🫠 it made me pretty nervous and still occasionally does. She sleeps great, only sits up once she’s very awake and then asks to get up (we didn’t train this, but both our big kids have had to be trained NOT to ask before getting out of bed 🧐). There are also stairs to the top rather than a ladder. She spends almost no time in the bed awake and the room is not generally a play area for them, but that’s when I’m nervous cause they’ll both totally get up there and jump around and sometimes I’m just busy with my 1 yo or something just long enough for them yo get rambunctious. It’s rare, though.
All of that, however, is anecdotal. The reality is there is risk. Though I think you’d be hard pressed to argue that it’s any more risky than letting your child play on the top part of a playground with a ladder and most people are fine with that. Make sure the rails are high enough or add something to block her in more and just don’t let her get wild alone in there, if you decide you’re comfortable.
