Supplement with formula even if baby seems content ?

Question

I’m supplementing with formula so baby can gain weight 1 oz per feeding. If my baby seems content after only breast milk should I still give formula ? I’m think I still give it to him until he’s up enough in weight.

how old is baby? I think if you start supplementing, baby is gonna get used to the feeling of being more full with formula and want to start taking the formula more which is going to make them more attached to wanting the bottle/formula and detached from you/breast milk. It’s probably best to just stay consistent with breast milk because your body will learn baby wants more and produce more and know when baby is hungry or needs to be fed, maybe try feeding more or pumping. This will hopefully help to produce more. 
This is just from what I’ve read and somewhat know about it, other than that maybe ask the baby’s dr what’s best. Good luck 👍

I wouldn’t. If you think your supply isn’t enough, supplementing with formula will only make it worse in the long run. If it’s your baby’s pediatrician recommending the formula, I would speak to an IBCLC. Unfortunately, pediatricians typically aren’t very knowledgeable when it comes to breastfeeding. Babies don’t gain enough by a pediatrician’s standards, pediatrician recommends supplementing with formula, mom’s supply tanks, and at that point formula is needed. 
I wouldn’t be concerned as long as your baby has enough wet diapers throughout the day (you can look up charts online for your baby’s age), and as long as baby is gaining weight and not losing it.

Was this advised by your pediatrician because baby is underweight? If it wasn’t, I wouldn’t bother with the formula....your body will naturally adjust your milk production according to your baby’s needs. Only time you really need to supplement is if your supply is low or if baby was born underweight or preemie and needs the extra calories to catch up.
