Highly recommend Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Fantastic book at explaining how to track your bbt and what it all means. It also has answers to pretty much all your bbt questions about your charts and such in it. I also recommend Fertility Friend. It was also a nice source for me to use in tracking.

You need 3 consecutive temps higher than the previous 6 to confirm ovulation. The day before the temp rise is ovulation day. I'll post my chart for example:

I also recommend you use fertility friend and opks. That app will calculate ovulation for you if it registers higher temperatures after ovulation (at least 3 in a row).

So first you’ll want to use opks to see if your body is trying to ovulate. When you get your first positive ovulation test (the line has to be as dark or darker than the control line) you’ll likely ovulate within 12-36 hours. The only way to know if you actually ovulated is if you see a temp shift. To track bbt you want to start the day after your period ends (I think) and same with opks. But that way you know your follicular phase temps. Once ovulation occurred it’s usually seen as a temp dip in your chart. The next few days should be higher temps (higher than the follicular phase temps by 0.5•F) and they hold steady for at least 3 days like that. I’ve attached a screenshot to show you what I’m talking about! Also I highly recommend you use fertility friend to track your bbt and whatnot (it’s an app)
