Any paraprofessionals on here?

I just started a new job as a paraprofessional in a middle school. I’m extremely nervous on starting, and I guess not sure what to expect since I am working with Special-ED children…. Any advice? Also, I work with the elderly so I’m used to different behaviors and disabilities, I just never worked with the youth population and I guess nervous from what some of the workers are telling me

I’ve been a middle school teacher for ten years and love it. Be genuine. They know when someone is trying too hard or being fake. Work closely with your SPED teacher and all other teachers to provide the best support possible for students but don’t do the work for them. Always remember - no child walks into school wanting to fail. Trauma is real. They want to be loved. Many of them don’t have love anywhere else.
