Are we the ass holes?

We are a family of 6, there's me, my partner, my 3 stepsons and our son.

The new school year just began (we're not in the US) and both eldest kids just changed schools.

The eldest (16) is going by bus and is doing this by himself.

The youngest stepson is 10 and is driven to school, the school doesn't have a schoolbus and we think he's too young to take public transportation. He's 10 but he looks like 7 or 8..

our son is 2 and will soon be biked to school (He's starting school in February as is normal here)

BUT my middle stepson (13) is going by schoolbus, they have a bus pickup RIGHT in front of their mom's house.. pretty convenient, right?

The school also has another bus pickup less than 300m from our house.

Both busses bring him to school directly.

HOWEVER my stepson does not want that at all. he thinks that is too complicated and he DEMANDS that we bring him to his mom's house pickup place and we pick him up from there. the youngest stepson's school is also near the mom's house.

The bus pickup is at 7:15 am. the youngest's school starts at 8:30. school is done at 3:15pm, dropoff is at 4:30pm..

This means that either their dad will need to drive 30 minutes each way 4 times a day.. which is just wasting 2 hrs per day (not to mention gas prices right now are INSANE) or they need to wait which will also just waste time and my youngest stepson needs a lot of time and help with his homework. It also just sucks to be "just waiting in a car" for over an hour knowing you've got a shitload of things to do but you just have to wait..

ONLY because my stepson thinks it's an inconvenience to take a different bus.

My partner is not having it. He's pretty angry at my stepson's audacity to make demands like that.

He's just going to call his school and make it work for him to take the bus close to our home (as he did in his previous school, he had 1 bus at his mom's and another bus at our place, the only difference is that that bus stopped at our house and this bus will pick him up at the end of our street)

My stepson is pretty upset about it, and so is his mom.. are we wrong to want to make it work for him to take the schoolbus at the end of our street in stead of driving him to his mom's house to have him take the bus there?

(tbh I'm not sure if we can afford to spend more on gas.. we're already scraping at the end of every month.. prices have gone up a good 12% on everything and my partner's wage has gone down by quite a bit and my expenses are going to go up because I'm required to go back to the office as post-covid measures are taking place since this month. )

@Kittycat

He hasn't been on this bus before but he hadn't been on the bus that stops at his mom's place before either.
