How do I get my kids to bed earlier?

An

My 4 and 2 year old do not fall asleep until sometimes 11pm. They both horribly fight bedtime. It starts at 8, when they get baths. And then we wind down with a book. But they’re always sooo energetic all day every day. They roll around in bed laughing and talking and sometimes screaming and crying for HOURS. I am so exhausted by it. My 4 year old is starting school soon and he has to be there at 9am and I just don’t know how to get him to bed earlier so he wakes up on time. I’ve tried wearing him out all day, letting him nap, starting routine earlier/later. Nothing is helping!

Wake them up earlier in the morning. Start bedtime routine at least one hour earlier at night. Maybe even earlier. Quit screen time an hour before bedtime routine. Be consistent and things will change. Kids get overtired and when that happens it’s nearly impossible to get them to sleep at a respectable time. The key is starting the bedtime routine at the first sign of any type of tiredness. For my daughter, if she started rubbing her eyes, it’s time to start the bedtime routine. If I wait for an hour after that, she’s overtired and next to impossible to get to bed.

Also important to remember that any changes you make need to be followed through for at least two weeks before you see the change. So don’t give up.

Take them for walk and have them run during the walk they aren't getting all of the energy out

Story of my life! Nothing works! My kids just don’t need much sleep!

If they fall asleep 8-9 they are awake 4-5! No naps during the day!!

They are 5&8 both going to school.

They go to sleep around 10pm and wake up 7. But my 5 year old wakes up at 6 every day.

I’d cut out the nap for your 4 year old and maybe the 2 year old or at least shorten theirs. You may need to end tv/screen time 1-2 hours before you start their baths and bedtime routine.

Same exact situation I just went through when my son started school last month. Do you let them wake up whenever they want? I was doing that & my kids would sleep til 9 or 10 bc they fought going to bed for so long & what I started doing was waking them up at 6:30 no matter what before school started even if it took them til 11 or 12 to fall asleep it took 3 weeks & now they are bothe asleep (5&2) by 9 pm every night for the first time ever!!! There is light at the end of the tunnel I promise

& absolutely no nap!!! Maybe an hour for the 2year old but make your 4 year old tough it out because with my son of I let him take a little nap he wouldn't sleep
