We kept ours in the car. Before we left the hospital my husband packed the car and then brought the car seat back up to the room to put baby in.

Wait. They'll move you from labor and delivery to maternity ward. Honestly we never brought our carseats in. Just installed and left them in the car. They are convertible kinds. Not the kind with a base and a carry bar. So we never brought ours in. A nurse went down with us both times and watched us put baby in and made sure all was good before we left.

We always waited til I was being discharged from the hospital. No reason to have it there before that.
