How much would you spend on a laptop?

I just customized a laptop for me for school and it comes out to $3,700 and I'm crying because that's way too expensive 😭

It depends on what you need - computers can be damn expensive. When I was doing my GIS program, I essentially needed a gaming laptop to be able to process the data. It was definitely expensive, probably 2k 10 years ago. The laptops we use for my job are around 5k but anything with less RAM and graphical power would be useless.

You don't need a custom laptop. I got my dream laptop right before college by stalking flash sales.

If you need it with certain software and abilities it may need to be higher up but if you only writing essays doing research etc it don't need to be that much

You don’t need a customized laptop. Of course it’s going to be that much. My MacBook Air has lasted for 4+ years and it’s in excellent condition.

Are you going for something that needs something special...graphic arts, music, etc?? If you are just going to be using it for basic college work, research and papers I'd just get a good but basic laptop. My neice went to college last year and I think she got a $500 Lenovo and it has done everything she needed because most classes that need a special program they have at your school. I honestly don't now if you add up every laptop I've had in the last 10 urs it adds up to the one you built so I'd make sure you really truly need all that because you usually dont.

Depends what you need it for. My husband and I got a chrome book for $600ish at staples but it’s really basic. We just needed Word and Excel and somewhere to use for telehealth appointments

My hp keyboard lit up , fingerprint to unlock , touchscreen & it flipped into a tablet …only 800$ 2-3 years ago back to school sale & the printer was thrown in for 10$ Best Buy ….laptop still works .

I did not need a customized laptop in college so mine was definitely under that. It depends on what you need it for. If you don’t need all that customization than you don’t need your “dream” laptop. Get what you need. If you need it, than start saving up I guess and scout for sales or maybe uses good condition items

What are you going to school for? What systems/applications/functionality do you need? The vast majority of students don’t need more than a basic laptop you can buy of the shelf. But if you have very specific needs you might need something more powerful or custom. If you can tell us what you need it for we can help guide you better.
