Has anyone had an unmedicated induction?

If you needed to be induced and you didn’t get an epidural what was your experience like? Was it manageable? Aren’t contractions worse if induced? Please share your birth story thanks!

I’ve been induced 3 out of 4 pregnancies. First one got the epidural (at the absolute last minute) didn’t feel a thing and I caught up on some sleep before she came.
Second one I went into labor naturally and my epidural didn’t work 100% so I still felt some of it but wasn’t too bad.
Third one the anesthesiologist (asshole) said they had a “new” method and completely fucked up my epidural because they kept paging him saying there was an emergency. It was the most painful epidural I’ve ever gotten and it didn’t work well either. I think one leg went numb. (My back was so fucked up it looked like someone punched me repeatedly and my entire pillow was covered in blood)
Fourth one I waited till the last minute again, they broke my water so after that I progressed quickly. The anesthesiologist (different guy) knew what had happened previously and tried his best to be gentle and get it to work but he said there was a chance the dude prior fucked up some nerves in my spine so it might not work. Welll it worked for an hour. Then I had nothing at all. So I felt it 100%. The contractions (yes the induction contractions) were not as bad as I was expecting. It did hurt but it didn’t last long. This may sound super cheesy but if you breathe through it you can handle it pretty well. I basically sat up straight and breathed through each one until it was time to push. As soon as I started pushing (the contractions literally make you start pushing naturally) the pain was subsiding. When her head and shoulders started to come out it stung for a brief second then she was out and it was oddly the best feeling in the world. I don’t know how to explain it but as soon as she fully came out my stomach felt like in sunk in a bit and like an elephant got off my chest . Does that make sense? Kinda like a very relieving feeling. If I ever , for some crazy ass reason, got pregnant again I’d do it without the epidural.

i think it would’ve killed me lmao my son was breech (head down but facing wrong direction) and back labor + pitocin was like satan ripping me apart

I went 19 hours with no pain management until the pitocin contractions were just too much and I finally got an epidural. Best choice ever to opt for drugs :)

Labor hurts. Period. It doesn’t matter if you’re induced or not. Labor is fucking painful.

I have had 3 inductions and two epidurals. My favorite labor was my unmedicated delivery. For my first my epidural only worked on half my body so I could still feel the contractions but was too numb to change positions on my own to alleviate the pain, that sucked. My second epidural worked awesome but it slowed down my labor and I hated the numb feeling and not being able to adjust positions. My 3rd I said screw the epidural and asked for wireless monitors. I put in my earbuds and walked the halls for hours and tried different positions in the room. The pain during contractions was intense but being able to move through them helped a ton. The worse part was the transition right before pushing, but honestly by that point knowing the end was near made it less painful. Overall would go no epidural again and encourage movement as much as possible.

I won’t sugar coat it, tried to go unmedicated when I was induced with pitocin but I had back labor and wanted to die so I opted for the epidural.

Not gonna sugar coat it. It sucks balls. Like big hairy balls. 😂. I refused the epidural and got 1 dose of iv meds. I was in labor for about 8hrs. The iv meds just made me high, I could still feel the pain. Just got a bit dazed out and fell asleep for a bit not completely just enough. I found that laying on my back made the pain worse. Controlling my breathing and telling myself to breath helped. I focused 1 contraction at a time. And when it came to pushing It helped yo have my husband push back on my legs.

I had one so I'll share my story. I went in for an induction at 39 weeks because my blood pressure was too high. I was started on a foley balloon to dilate, then pitocin about an hour later. After the balloon fell out they broke my water. Contractions were manageable before my water broke, I was able to talk and eat and drink through them, but after my water broke there was no break between contractions and I fully dilated so fast no one believed me when I started screaming for a nurse because I had to push lol. I'm glad that I only had about an hour and a half from unbearable contractions to pushing time. During those bad contractions I got some relief from moving around but I really wish I would have taken a hypnobirthing or lamaze class because I didn't know how to breathe through the contractions. Once I got to start pushing the pain was a million times better, I spent about an hour pushing. I was petrified about feeling the ring of fire but I never felt it! I lucked out with a fast labor, 5 hours start to finish. I would definitely do it again without the epidural, but I really hope my next baby can be born without an induction.
