Babies head over 99 percentile at 32 weeks

Kelsey

Anyone else been told their child is going to have a large head? 😳 my dr said not to worry that it’s hereditary but after looking online I’m a nervous wreck something is wrong.

Hi Kelsey, I’m in the same boat. >99th percentile. I freaked out for a bit but some notes on the positive side:— the measurements are often significantly off, especially if he’s head down and tucked into your pelvis— a big head means he’s less likely to get his shoulders stuck, which can injury the baby — my doctor said if the head doesn’t fit, my labor won’t progress so we will do a back up C-section. My biggest fear is a grade 4 tear, so that was comforting. I thought he wouldn’t get stuck until he was crowning, but they should know earlier — there are lots of factors that influence how easily they come out, including if they’re facing back or front. So it’s not the be all end all if he has a big dome.Hope that helps! I’m still def crossing my fingers that he comes early!!!

All 3 of my babies had 99th percentile heads (and still do 🤷🏻‍♀️). Only issue I had was my first got stuck during labor so he had to be a last minute csection. As long as it runs in the family there really isn’t much to worry about as long as your dr thinks your still fine to deliver naturally.

My husband was a big baby and so was his brother. My daughter was born at 35 weeks weighing 6lbs 5oz so I’m assuming that it runs in the family lol.
