Did your baby nurse successfully with a lip tie?

Or did you need it to get fixed? My baby has a minor looking lip tie and I’m not sure if it’s a must to get it fixed? My baby latches good and nurses well. Good amount of diapers and very good weight gain. I just always heard babies with lip ties don’t latch well and I’m wondering if I should look into getting it fixed.

My baby has a lip tie and nursed successfully for 12-13 months. Has been in the 70-90th percentile her entire life and never had issues with gas or puking. As long as babies latch is good, and feels good to you (your pain level should be at a zero after the first week or so of nursing) I don’t see a reason to fix it🤷🏻‍♀️
She recently saw a dentist that said it goes low on her gum line and may cause a gap between her front teeth, but I had that too as a kid and it closed naturally. A lot of times it gets busted during normal childhood accidents anyway. If hers need to be cut we will cross that bridge when/if we get there!

Nope. My youngest had a tounge tie, the worst the pediatric ENT and pediatric dentist had ever seen, and has a lip tie. Her tounge tie was causing her to drop too much weight since she couldn't latch. Her front teeth are coming in and are cutting into her lip tie and it causes a lot of pain. We are still waiting on her to get an appointment to be out under for her lip tie. She'll need stitches as it's also pretty bad. The ties made it to where she couldn't get her tounge far enough forward or have enough mobility with her upper lip to latch onto my nipples hardly at all. When she did latch it was only at the tip of my nipples, even with the help of several ICBLCs, and I would sob and bleed. She caused cracks deep enough to almost need stitches. 
Our oldest also has a tounge and lip tie that need to be corrected. They are minor ties for our oldest, but are causing speech problems and make brushing her upper teeth painful.

My second son had a lip tie. The first six weeks of nursing him was excruciating but he was gaining weight and the pain stopped. He nursed super successfully. He was a huge, chunky baby. 95th percentile by 5 months. 
When he was about 13-14 months old, he ended up ripping the lip tie in a fall. Apparently it's very common for lip ties to get ripped in falls for toddlers/children if their ties aren't cut as babies.

Even if your baby is nursing fine you need to have the ties checked by a dentist. Untreated oral ties can cause speech problems later on down the line. My son had oral ties we did not treat when he was a newborn and although he eventually did nurse fine they caused me to get severely painful milk blisters and subsequent clogs.

My first had lip and tongue ties and needed them fixed, solved all of my nursing problems. My second I never had a problem but she doesn’t have any ties I know of

Yes, but she was never checked for lip ties. I just thought it was normal for baby's to nurse 40min at a time even when not clusterfeeding; even after 6mo she still needed 20-30min to fully nurse 🥴. 
Then my second was born and was SUPER efficient, like 10min or less even as a newborn, so it made me wonder. I checked my eldest's upper lip and sure enough, huge f*cking tie, so no wonder she was such an inefficient nurser. I wish I would have known because I absolutely would have gone for the revision.

If baby is latching well and getting plenty of milk there is no need to "correct" a slight lip tie. If you ever do decide to do anything about it later on pediatric dentists recommend having it corrected around age 6 or 7 when the child loses the front baby teeth.

I fixed my 1st but not my 2nd. With my 1st, I was confused about cluster feeding and thought he wasn't getting enough and his was pretty severe so I did it. He was nursing and latching fine. I didn't with my 2nd because he had a good latch and nursed just fine. My 2nd is actually chunkier at 2yo than my 1st was. It's just their genetics. I honestly didn't see a difference in their nursing habits.
