Overweight & Pregnant

Danielle

Okay I need advice! 23 weeks pregnant with my first baby this week and I am starting to feel like my doctor(s) have really been just focusing on the scale rather than anything else. For starters, I am only ONE pound up from my pre pregnancy weight.. I have fluctuated up and down give or take 6lbs since the beginning and we are back to only being up 1lb. My doctor sees this as a great thing due to “already being heavy”. I thought I was still supposed to still be gaining healthy baby weight? Idk. The main reason I’m posting is bc I went to my “co doctor” for my anatomy scan and she looked at all my tests and blood work asking why I was taking certain tests and certain panels. She basically said I am being taken advantage of because I’m obese.. no preclamysia, not pre diabetic, blood work and blood pressure all within normal levels. Has anyone experienced this? It feels wrong and dirty bc I am SOOO trusting in doctors and I took all the tests bc that’s what my ob recommended.. it feels greedy and shady. Even the comments made at my anatomy scan.. “normally with THE obese we can’t see everything on baby, but I saw everything I needed to.” (THE obese like we are animals or something) I had to finally speak up and say like if the number on the scale is affecting my baby, then we should discuss but it’s not! Being an athlete my entire life I can’t stand the conversation… Sure I have fat on me but still packed with muscle. Idk I’m ranting at this point. What have you done to deal with this kind of weight discrimination? Seems too late to switch doctors, but I don’t know. I don’t want to be complicated and just want to be treated as normal as possible if everything with baby is FINE. Be nice to me, I’m new here lol.
