I have a 3 year old and a one year old and am currently a stay at home mom. As we look for daycares/preschools for our children, I'm finding that 95 pct or more of facilities follow a traditional school schedule, closing during the summer, as well as weeks for Fall break, Christmas break, and Spring break. I'm pretty much unable to find center-based childcare for these months of the year. What does the "average" family do for childcare when both parents work traditional jobs? I think there are many track out camps available for children once they reach kindergarten age, but nothing at all for the toddler set.
