Reintroducing dairy at 6 months

I've been dairy free since about 5 weeks because my LO had a suspected cows milk protein allergy. I say suspected because she was never tested, but when I cut dairy out she got much better within a few days and has been fine since. Her pediatrician said I could try to reintroduce dairy to my diet around 6 months because some babies outgrow it by then.

Well now she's almost 6 months, and I'm thinking about trying dairy again...please share your experiences if you went through this as well. How did you go about it and did it work for you?

We're also planning to start solids when she hits 6 months, but I'm worried doing both at the same time may be a bad idea, so if you have a recommendation for dairy first or solids first and how it worked out for you I'd appreciate that as well.

I plan to ask for her pediatrician's recommendation as well, but want to hear from you all about your experiences.

After talking with her pediatrician I've decided to do what some of you recommended and try feeding her dairy directly. Their recommendation was to start with yogurt for a week or so with no other solid foods to see if she tolerates it well.We tried it for the first time last night and she seemed to like it! No reactions so far so we'll keep going and see how she does. 😊🤞

My pediatrician told me to wait until 9 months. This is also the recommended from all the dairy free breastfeeding groups i follow. and there’s a way to do it, it’s called the dairy ladder. Adding dairy back to your diet is last.

I wouldn't do that. It takes a while for the Allergen to leave your system, so it would make more sense to wait until baby is having solids and then introduce dairy that way instead..

I’d do either what Silje said Or introduce a single bite of yogurt or oatmeal made with milk to babe directly and see how babe does over the next 2-3 days. If babe still can’t handle cows milk (which is possible), you can cook with breast milk, oat milk, or pea protein milk! And try again closer to 1.

My logic would be to keep eating like dairy free, but one day eat one thing with some dairy - example 1 smal pot of yoghurt. Then keep your normal diet(diary free) and see if there's a reaction of any sort. If no reaction after 2-4 days, slowly introduce more and more diary slowly the same way.
