Constantly complaining
My friend is constantly complaining about where we live. We live right outside of Atlanta in the suburbs. It’s pretty, warm, there’s great local food, and there’s pretty good shopping when you get into Atlanta. We both met here but are not from here. I am from Pennsylvania and she is from Oregon originally. She is CONSTANTLY constantly complaining about the area and Georgia in general. Says the people are stupid/uneducated, says the food sucks, says it’s ugly and humid and gross, says everything about it sucks. She talks about Oregon as if it’s some magical land of rainbows and butterflies. I always ask, why don’t you move back? She says she cannot afford it right now. And I’m like, well it’s a lot more expensive than Georgia. She lives here on every type of assistance available and doesn’t even work, but everything is Georgia’s fault and her life would apparently be exponentially better if she lived in Oregon. What is the psychology about this? I am honestly intrigued about this type of constantly complaining and idealization of another place.
