We always make sure both of our kids have a good sleeping enviornment. So they have a cold room, sound machine, and the room is pitch black. We always set the stage for good sleep. Sleep is developmental so babies don't just know how to sleep. We focus on getting baby to sleep however we can then once they're ready focus on setting a sleep routine. With out oldest a gentle sleep training worked wonders. That did NOT work for our youngest. So we gently rock her to sleep. However, it only takes about 2 minutes total to put her to sleep and get her in her bed. 5 minutes if she's REALLY struggling. I highly recommend @the.peaceful.sleeper on Instagram. Her advice helped me get my oldest sleeping through the night at 2.5 months, 8 hours by 3 months, in her own room for 10 hours a night by 4 months, and 13 hours a night by 5 months. Our youngest was sleeping through the night at 8 hours by 4 months, in her own room at 5 months, 10 hours by 6 months, and 13 hours by 9 months. She had a lot more sleep struggles, but part of that we believe is due to her wanting a pacifier and not her thumb like her older sister does. We also follow the rule of wake, eat, play, sleep.
