PCOS help

Ok so im 22 and im new to this whole PCOS thing, i did my research when I was diagnosed but the thing is the OBGYN didnt really say that it was PCOS they just said I had alot of follicles on my ovaries and that my symptoms seemed consistent with PCOS. They prescribed Metformin and I have been taking it like im supposed to but I dont think its helping anything. Is there anything else I can talk to my OBGYN about trying to get my periods back on track? I am trying to do this without birth control because my husband and I may start trying for a baby soon.
