Has anyone gotten the advice to supplement breast milk with water?

My MIL insists our baby needs water in addition to breast milk. She said when she was breastfeeding (30 years ago) her doctor told her that her milk was too thick and she needed to give her baby plain water. I asked my doctor and he said absolutely not, it’s actually dangerous to do that. Has anyone else gotten this advice?

Breathing is EVERYTHING your baby needs. Your body adjusts tomeet their needs.....growth spurts, heat wave. They need nothing extra until weaning

If your child is too young, water can kill them. Please just advise pediatrician for up to date guidelines. My grandma told me she gave orange juice to her 1 month old and spoon fed rice at 2 weeks old 🤦‍♀️🤣 things have changed MIL!!

She is absolutely WRONG! And that makes zero sense.
Breast milk is ALL baby needs. Please do not heed her advice and contact a lactation consultant and ask for some specific information that you can send to your MIL to teach her better.

no, but I would not listen to her, they can’t have water until they start solids around 6 months

No absolutely not I'd give my son like 1/2 an oz of water every now and then bc I thought he must be thirsty but even then it was very little if you do what she's saying you're diluting the milk and making it less efficient. I'd be careful if you leave baby with her bc I'm sure she'd do it behind your back

No your breastmilk has enough water. No need to give water. If baby is peeing and pooping okay then they are hydrated
