Large clots?

Manas if any experience this please teach us.
I want to know how large is a Large clots?
I remember with my first baby I had some clots and I thought the were large(almost the size of half of my hand) and I called the nurses they say it was fine but if it was large it will be a problem. So I'm confused now. 
Was that not large? How can I know if this is large or not?
I had a couple of them while I was bleeding so I was a bit confused.

I passed one the size of my hand, I called and they said totally normal as I was pretty much finished bleeding already. So long as it didn't keep happening or I didn't start heavily bleeding again.

I was told bigger than a golf ball needs a phone call or visit. I passed one large clot bigger than a lemon and I called. My ob said it was fine as long as bleeding didn't increase and I didn't pass any other clots that size. Just because you pass large clots doesn't mean anything is wrong but you definitely want to call anyways. However I would think a clot the size of your hand would warrant a visit or something
