Do you let baby cry while dad is holding them?

We have a six week old that has a hard time settling with dad. At the end of the day I’m exhausted and my husband always offers to put her down. Only issue is she has a total meltdown. 
Should I be stepping in to help or should I let them figure it out?

The more he does it the more the baby will be used to him doing bedtime & they will eventually stop crying

Honestly, I didn’t let my child cry if dad couldn’t soothe him in a short amount of time. I see no value to it personally. My now toddler and husband are BFFs and have never had any issue bonding. But if my young baby was upset and needed to be comforted, I absolutely did step in. 
This is very much a “do what feels like the best thing for your situation” kind of thing. For my family, that is what felt right and we felt good doing. For others, it may not be.

Is it possible for you to leave the house at this time? The baby may be having a hard time because they know you’re around.

To an extent. If it’s been past the 10-15 minute mark and both baby and dad are frustrated and tired then that’s a lose-lose situation (add an extra loss in there since you’re probably downstairs listening anyway). In that case we swap back out.

As long as they’re not crying to be fed (breast feeding) or what ever…. Then let dad step in. Baby will also get used to dads touch and smell and voice. It’s okay. Put your head down and rest mumma

At first I used to step in when my boyfriend was struggling because I felt bad but I felt like it didn't help anything. It just made him feel like he wasn't a good dad. I stay at home so I know my son better than anything and know how to put him down.
Eventually I let him learn how to rock him and what he needed and it really helped him figure our son out and feel good. Sometimes on rougher nights (he's 14 months now) I have to give him a few tips, but I still try to let him figure it out and have his time.
But it doesn't matter how much time either of us spend with him though because my son has always been obsessed with his dad and the only hassle he gives him is at bedtime.

No. My husband also wouldn’t/won’t keep the baby crying. They have both shown that they’re fine with him when I’m not around. My son was especially bad about crying for me if I was around. My daughter is better. My son and husband are inseparable now. He cries for his dad all the time.

Let him do it. My almost 4 year old twins won't go down for dad. It has to be me because its party time when dad tries.

No. I wouldn't let anyone keep baby with them if baby isn't easily consoled by them. Especially as a newborn and young infant. Baby spent 10 months attached to me and instinct told us we needed to be together. I also breastfed so most of the time a newborn and infant is consoled by nursing since you nurse on demand. Dad would try and if baby wasn't happy she was given back to me. As she got older dad was able to console her more but as a newborn baby was with me most of the time.  I personally would never sit back and let my baby have a full on meltdown with Dad if I know I can step right in and console them. That's just how I feel about it.
