I am currently living with my cousin and cousin in law with their 3 kids the oldest being 4 years old. Before moving in with them, I’ve always heard that the 4 year old can be really destroyful and straight up rude. When I moved here, I brought just 2 of my 22 month old’s toy cars because I couldn’t move all the stuff at once. The 4 year old child (let’s call him Kurt) tore some wires out of one of his cars and completely broke the top off another one. My son had these cars for months. I don’t like the fact that Kurt is destroying my child’s car. I took the cars from him and told him not to play with them because while I was supervising his playing with my son’s toys he was hitting them on the ground etc. he wouldn’t listen and I know some kids just play like that, but what do I do when he destroys my child’s toys? I went into a store and bought him 2 cars for Kurt so he won’t feel bad. His parents doesn’t buy toys for him anymore because he destroys them in less than a week. When they buy books, he tears them up. Am I an asshole for not wanting him to use my son’s toys? I live in the Caribbean and toys with good quality are kinda expensive and my son loves cars that’s why I bought them for him, but I also don’t want him to feel left out. In a few months time, I’ll be in my own place. I’m just going through a very difficult time now which is why I have to live with them.
