Be mad or let it go?

So my husband decided to purchase his mother a $600 necklace for her birthday before making any sort of bill payments. Now he’s complains he has no money to pay his car insurance and I’ll probably have to end up paying it AGAIN. (I pay it often due to poor money management on his end) 
Would you be mad? Or let it go?

That is not a responsible adult & constant bad financial planning like that would be a deal breaker for me. Will he allow you to manage his money or commit to move a set amount into a joint account each paycheck so you can manage his bills? I wouldn’t pay his car insurance. Let him learn a lesson 🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s not about being mad or letting it go. It’s about learning and fixing as a unit. The two of you need to talk about finances together. Perhaps take some free financial wellness courses where you learn together, budget and change together.

I would come up with a system to where no one touches the main account except for bills and groceries, then you each get an allowance for extras in your own account or cash, and anything else must be mutually agreed upon. That gift feels extravagent especially when it means basic bills dont get paid, but with the new system he can work on saving his money for splurges.

My partner does this, he gets paid weekly and knows how much he’s supposed to put away each week to cover the monthly bills, he decides to use it because it’s there and ends up not being able to pay because he’s spent. I’m very good with money but he can learn from his own mistakes, not my problem

If it keeps happening, stop paying. He’s gonna expect you to pay it every time and you should’t have to use your own money to pay his bills.

Tell him to set up auto pay. You can choose the day it comes out so set it up to come out on pay day then he doesn’t even have a chance to use it before it goes to bills. I have all my bills auto payed on pay day and I have never had to worry about if a bill was paid before I use it
