Potty training

My two year old has a speech delay but is starting to say a few more words. He keeps pointing at his diaper whenever he pees and I ask if he needs a diaper change and he says yeah and lays down where I change his diaper. I feel like he is ready but am worried about starting because he’s not really talking much. Any advice? Should I wait or go for it?
